Book Club

For any new visitors or those not reading the comments under each post, the Charleston Park Book Club has chosen to read "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult. The first "official" :) meeting will be May 8th or 9th (please comment with suggestions). Steph has volunteered her house and several people have offered to bring appetizers/drinks. I think that about sums it up. Anyone else interested and those who have already commented on the blog, feel free to make suggestions/comments here! We'll consider this our CPBC section!

Sounds good to me. That is a Wed, right? Yeah!!!! Colleen is making magaritas.....they are legendary!!!

Cols said...

Sounds great to me too! I'm a total dork and have already finished the book:)

OK, I have the book and am reading it. let's finalize a date and tell others that may not be looking at this. I would hate for someone to be left out......

Stephanie said...

Okay - I'm back. May 9th is fine with me. I have spread the word to some who aren't on the blog. Should we make a flyer? Should we say bring an appetizer or dessert? I can make coffee and have some sweet tea for those of us who can't enjoy the margaritas :(

Unknown said...

A flyer would be nice. I can print out if needed. My laser printer is pretty fast. Just let me know. I'll bring an appetizer. I just finished the book and it was great. Read it in 24 hours..... Thanks Colleen for letting me borrow!

Tina and I are going to do a flyer for the book club next week. Steph- is it still okay at your house? Can't wait,

Stephanie said...

Yes - we are on for my house. I agree to wait for the flyer for next time at this point. That way we can also go ahead and decide on the next book and put that in the flyer. So - 7:30 works for everybody? I won't be able to put Carter down until 8:15 - 8:30 since he doesn't go down well until it's darker but he shouldn't be in the way too much. I will have tea, water and coke. Anybody who wants to bring an appetizer or something sweet - I'll have plates, cups and napkins. I have to get the book finished but it's a hard book to read - good but difficult. I can't wait to talk to everybody about it.

Just in case someone isn't sure where I live - it is 3607 High Battery Bluff. Don't feel you have to bring something to eat - bringing only yourself is fine!!

This book is making have serious doubts about my decision to become a parent - but I guess it's too late for that! I have several of her other books if anyone wants to borrow them.

I know what a book, very emotional. She is a great writer. See you tomorrow,

sandra said...

OK, 2 books I have heard about lately sound interesting...

Water for Elephants....

or

The Road...

I'm up for any book.

TB said...

Sandra, since you have offered to host the next one, why don't you pick the book and date for June. Once we have that, we can make a flyer so everyone knows and tell them at the cookout. Sound like a plan to you? I'll read whatever....

sandra said...

Ok, let's read
Water for Elephants
by Sara Gruen.
It's in paper back I believe and on the NY Bestseller list.
It is about an 90 yr old man's recollection of his time as a Vet during the depression in a circus.
All the reviews I have read have been raves...so, either we'll love it or we'll hate it...or both :)

We can do the Book Club anytime after the first weekend in June...
Is June 13the good?? That is a Wed. ? Any day of the week is fine for me I will be out for Summer Vacation :)

TB said...

Sounds good to me. I can do any Wed that is good for everyone. ( or any other day) Let me know what I can bring....

Cols said...

Sounds good to me! I'll get the book this weekend.

Stephanie said...

Hey - sorry I've been MIA. The book and date sound good to me. I'll be out of town for vacation until that Tuesday but hopefully I can get it read at the beach while chasing Carter.

sandra said...

Ok so the final date for Book Club is Wed. June 13th, at my house...sound good?
Just bring yourselves. I will have drinks and appetizers ready :)
For anyone who wants to join us who does not know where I live, my address is

Ladies I will be a bit late. My windows are being cleaned as we speak and after that I have some sweet kitties to check in on. Hopefully I'll be there by 8:00!

Cols said...

TB said...

That was fun! Thanks Sandra for hosting. Wish I could have hung out longer!! I hate AM appointments! Can't wait for next month. Promise this time I will read the book!

Chris & Donna said...

Way fun girls! Make sure it's a "book-on-cd".....just kidding. Thanks for hosting Sandra!

Cols said...

Hi Girls, sorry I have been such a slacker about picking out the book! Time is flying. Has anyone read the "Time Traveler's Wife?" by Audrey Niffenegger? Let me know. It looks a little more light hearted. It's in paperbabk and has been out a couple of years. If anyone has read it no big deal, I can pick out another. Fast, I promise!

sandra said...

Colleen,
I have not read that book and have heard it is a good book. Fine by me :)

Cols said...

Let's just call it this then so we can start reading. The usual date would be the week after the 4th, we can push it back a week if need be. I hope you can make it Steph, I know it's getting close for you!

Colleen

Stephanie said...

That book sounds good to me! Sam is not working a Wed. this month so anytime is fine with me - it depends on how fast everyone can read the book. I don't think I am going to make it to my due date but the 18th or the 25th would probably still work - but you never know!!!! You guys could always meet in my hospital room. The nurses would probably frown on our typical beverage choices though!!

Cols said...

Steph, how funny! They might not like the company in the hospital. Let's go for the 18th? Okay Tina, Sandra and Donna? And anyone else still welcome to join.
Colleen

sandra said...

The 18th is good for me :)
Sandra

TB said...

Yes, the 18th is good for me too. Sorry for my late response. Let me know Colleen if I can bring anything.

OK ladies, sorry for the late notice on the next book. I think it is my turn..... I have selected "There's a (slight) chance I might be going to hell" by Laurie Notaro. It is supposed to be a quick read and funny. I heard it was at Costco and can be ordered off Amazon. I think with all of us being so busy, it might be nice to schedule out a few weeks on this one. I know Stephanie is about to have her baby, Sandra's back at work, etc.. How about we decide to meet the week before or after Labor Day? Any thoughts? We can meet at my house or at Mexico Tipico around the corner on Cobb Pkwy? I was thinking weeknight, pitcher magaritas and cheap mexican. 7ish with an early goodnight? Let me know...

Also, spread the word and invite your neighbors if you think they would be interested. Angie, I am calling you out here because I know you want to join.... ; )

Take care everyone!

Tina

Angie said...

I'd love to join. Is it possible to make it the week after labor day because we will be out of town until then. Thanks for he invite tina!!
Angie

Chris & Donna said...

Hmm----That's a book I'll have to read! >:)
Either your house or Mexican is fine with me. The weekend after Labor Day sounds great also. Welcome to our club, Angie!

sandra said...

The week after Labor Day is good for me too :)
Either location is cool...
Angie, I'm glad you are joining us!

Sandra

TB said...

Let's definately do the weekend after Labor Day. That will work for all. The book may have to be ordered off Amazon, sorry ladies. Sandra said Books a Million does not have it. I am going to check the other stores before ordering and will let you know. We can decide where to do it closer to the date. Congrats to Steph!!! Looks like their new little one has arrived! Welcome Angie to the club also!

TB said...

I got it and found it at Target. Colleen is reading first and the me. Anyone else can borrow if they want. Just let me know.

Stephanie said...

Hey girls!! I'm back in the land of the living! I don't know if I will get the book read or not but I'll still come. Sam is working on the 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 14th so any day except those dates. I'll plan on feeding Caleb right before I come so I can partake in the margaritas!! Feel free to drop in girls if you want to see the baby - just give me a call and say you're coming by - we love visitors as long as you don't mind a messy house!

TB said...

Hi Ladies!Glad to hear everyone is planning to come. Don't worry if you don't read the book. I do need to p0ush the date back a few weeks. With the holidays and work lately, life has been hectic. Why don't we shoot for Wed 9/19/07? Let me know if that works for everyone.

Angie said...

tina,
I was wondering if you were done with the book and if I could possibly borrow it? If not ,I'm sure I can find it somewhere. Thanks
Angie

TB said...

Hi everyone! OK, I hope we are all set for this week Wed, 9/19/07. If you haven't read or finished the book, no worries. Just come and have fun! Why don't we all meet at Mexico Tipico on Cobb Pkwy at Acworth Due West. It is in same plaza as Gold's Gym, across from Lowes. Does that sound like a plan? I am thinking around 7PM. Will that work for everyone? If not, let me know and I can have it at my house.

Chris & Donna said...

The next book will be "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden. This should be a fairly easy book to obtain from just about anywhere. How does Nov 7th around 7ish sound to everyone? All newcomers all especially invited -- whether you actually read the book or not. I do have two cats and a parrot (for allergy sufferers). Please let me know if this date works for everyone. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

TB said...

Sounds great to me!

I heard the book club was cancelled for this week and reset for next Wed, 11/14. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it as I have company coming to town. I hope you all have fun! See you next time!
